Halcyon delivers sustainable homes for Australian seniors

Halcyon has been developing some of Australia’s premium over 50s communities in south-east Queensland since 2003.

With the main goal of creating great homes and lifestyles for Australian seniors, Halcyon always strives to build in an efficient and sustainable way.

Bevan Geissman, Joint Managing Director of Halcyon, explains how they thrive on creating sustainable and enjoyable communities.

“There have been two retirement developments that achieved the EnviroDevelopment six-leaf certification, and both were built by us. So, we take sustainability very seriously. We think it’s one of the key pillars of our brand and it’s definitely something that our customers appreciate too,” Bevan explained.

Independent testing shows that overall, Hebel has a 30% lower environmental impact – using over 60% less embodied energy, and producing at least 55% less greenhouse emissions than concrete or brick veneer.

Bevan argues that building with Hebel is crucial to Halcyon creating more sustainable communities.

“From day one Hebel has been a strong element in our sustainability story,” he said.

Sustainability is a key consideration in the wider construction industry – but particularly so for the living conditions of seniors with strong environmental concerns.

“The modern senior is very sensitive to how they will leave the planet. They’re quite interested in sustainability and they engage quite strongly with environmental issues. Probably more so than younger people, because they’re trying to leave the place better than when they came.“

Sustainable building begins with Hebel.
