When designing the home and sourcing materials, Wilson had to consider all aspects of the design including thermal and acoustic properties, in addition to the method of installation and the finished aesthetic and cost.
A key element of the brief was to create an external facade with deep window reveals, by using Hebel meant that the depth of the panel and the use of the supporting top hat system provided the desired window reveals.
In regards to alternative building materials, brick veneer was also considered as an external wall finish to the new first floor walls. However, using Hebel reduced the requirements for expensive steel framework and the installation of the first floor walls only took three days to complete. This provided the builder and client with the advantage of a shorter building programme.
